Sometimes motivating your child to clean their smile can be challenging to say the least. But it has to be done, right? Your child needs to prevent dental issues and maintain a healthy smile as much as possible. To help you help your child get excited about oral hygiene, Dr. Larry Hemby and our dental team have some helpful recommendations for you.

When you purchase oral hygiene tools, select a brush, toothpaste, and floss that has your child’s favorite cartoon characters on it. This can help your child enjoy scrubbing and cleaning their smile because it’s like their cartoon friends are helping them achieve the smile they need to eat, talk, and laugh!

When asking your child to clean their teeth and gums, make it a game. When brushing, inspire your child to create as many bubbles as they can. The more they brush, the more bubbles they will form! You can also convince your child their floss is a superhero. Explain that the floss will dive into the spaces between the teeth and eliminate the villains known as plaque and bacteria!

Lastly, practice oral hygiene with them. If you make cleaning the smile a family activity, your child will feel like they are part of the oral hygiene party. While you all brush, turn on music and dance along. Brushing, flossing, and rinsing can be enjoyable!
