Mary Wright – Office Manager
I have been in dentistry for 34 years. I started as a Dental Assistant and added the duties of scheduling, receptionist, billing and insurance. I am now the Office Manager and over the years I have worn many hats. In addition to my main duties, you can find me doing most anything that is needed, from ordering supplies to keeping our computers on-line and up to date.
I enjoy helping patients in all areas and my goal is to have them leave feeling cared for and happy with their overall dental experience with our practice.
I have been married to my wonderful husband Mike for 24 years and have two sons, Clay and Braeden, and a wonderful daughter-in-law, Stephanie. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
Catherine Smutko – Marketing & Community Relations Manager
I have been a patient of Dr. Hemby’s my entire life and now I am on the other side of the desk as his Marketing & Community Relations Manager. I am so blessed to be able to work with such wonderful people in my hometown. I was born and raised in Southport and I graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 2011 where I earned a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing.
I am married to my wonderful husband of 3 years, Matthew. We have a precious daughter, Lilly Grace who is a year old, and is my greatest accomplishment.
In my free time I like to perform at my parent’s theatre, the Amuzu, in Southport and spend time with my family and friends.
I enjoy working with the public and am very excited to be learning more about the dental world and expanding my knowledge in this field.

I have lived in Southport all of my life and love the charm and quaintness of our beautiful little town. I have been a Dental Assistant for Dr. Hemby for 29 years. The best part of my job is getting to know my patients. I strive to provide the very best care possible for my patients and making them feel like they are part of our Southport Dental family.
I have been married to my wonderful husband David for 23 years. In my spare time I love to spend it with family and friends. I enjoy reading and doing a variety of outdoors activities.
Lindsay Graham – Dental Hygienist
I was born and raised in the small town of Clinton, NC. I graduated from Fayetteville Tech in 2010 where I earned my AAS in Dental Hygiene and practiced there for the next 5 years. My husband John and I relocated to Oak Island in November of 2015.
I love working for a practice that treats patients the way I want to be treated, by listening and making them feel like they are part of our dental family.
In our spare time we enjoy meeting new people and hanging out on the beach. Our five dogs love the beach as much as we do. We love our four-legged children, a Golden Retriever, Beaugart, and our mixed breeds, Lila, Nollie, Dalebert, and Opie!
Wendy Lawson – Dental Hygienist
I have been in dentistry for 25 years. I started as a receptionist, and then became a certified Dental Assistant. The more I learned about dentistry the more I knew I wanted to be a Dental Hygienist. I earned a degree in Dental Hygiene in 2003 from Central Piedmont in Charlotte, NC.
Outside of work I enjoy reading, the outdoors and spending time with my fur babies, Cinna and Bentley and I am active in my church, Unite.
It has always been a dream of mine to live at the beach so I moved to Southport in August of 2015 and I have loved every minute of it! I am excited to be part of a practice that provides their patients with exceptional dental care and treats them like family.
