Kevin Aiken, DDS

Dr. Aiken is a native of North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. Dr. Aiken practice in Rockingham, North Carolina, with his father until the senior Dr. Aiken retired. Dr. Aiken moved to the beach four or so years ago and came on board with Dr. Jones and Dr. Munson. Dr. Aiken loves to spend time with his wife, son and family when he is not working hard here at the office. Our favorite thing about Dr. Aiken is that he plays guitar, and if you are lucky enough to have a late Thursday afternoon appointment, you may have the pleasure of hearing him play his guitar for the staff at the end of the day.

George Jones, DMD

Dr. Jones, or “George” as he is known to most of his patients, friends and family, completed his training at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2003. He graduated at the top of his class and served as class president during his junior and senior years. After graduating, Dr. Jones immersed himself in his new career and tried to learn everything he could about the latest techniques and materials.

In fact, he completed over 220 hours of continuing education last year alone (over 10 times North Carolina’s state licensing requirement). Dr. Jones is a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (the largest dental implant organization in the world), a diplomate of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, and a member of both the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Jones has a passion for dentistry and continuously seeks out the latest techniques and procedures.

As he has become recognized as a clinician who is familiar with the latest in technology and materials, Dr. Jones has recently become a product evaluator and consultant to several dental manufacturers.

On a personal note, Dr. Jones was raised in Wheeling, West Virginia, and graduated from Wheeling Jesuit College with a bachelor’s in chemistry. After graduating, he relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he met his wife, Holli, a Wilmington native.

After working in pharmaceutical and medical equipment sales for nine years, he was hired as a regional sales manager for a dental manufacturer. After three years of spending 30 to 40 hours a week in dental offices, he knew he had found his true calling. With his wife’s support, he quit his job, sold their house and enrolled in dental school. They decided to relocate back to North Carolina to be closer to both their families.

When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Jones is busy raising three daughters, two dogs, a cat, a guinea pig and a lizard. As time permits, he enjoys fishing, traveling and photography.

Jennifer Munson, DMD

Dr. Jennifer Munson is a native of Warren, Pennsylvania. She attended Penn State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in biology. Prior to graduation, Dr. Munson was commissioned in the United States Navy. While in dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Munson attended Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island. After graduation from dental school in 2003, Dr. Munson was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, before being transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Dr. Munson deployed to Al Asad, Iraq, in February of 2005, where she oversaw the dental clinic. Her duties also included dental care for all military, contractors and third-country nationals. Dr. Munson gained valuable knowledge while in the military. Afterwards, Dr. Munson worked in group practices and private practice while in North Carolina. She moves to New Orleans in 2015 but returned to North Carolina in 2017. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Munson enjoys spending time with her family at the beach, riding bicycles, or enjoying a great book.

L.D. Williams IV, DDS

Dr. Williams was born in Wichita, Kansas, and soon moved to the small town of El Dorado, Kansas, where he grew up, met his future wife and developed a love for his community and a passion for dentistry. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Kansas, where he chose a focus of study of pre-dental, majored in psychology and minored in business. Upon graduation from KU, he spent a year dental assisting while applying for dental school. Dr. Williams was accepted to the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, where he was able to achieve his goal of becoming a dentist while growing his passion for the profession and his patients.

On a more personal note, Dr. Williams loves spending time with his best friend and wife, Kristina, and their dog, Tucky. He also enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling, SCUBA diving, hiking, golfing and playing guitar. He has loved regaining the small town, family feel of his childhood here at Southport, and he is grateful to be a part of the amazing family at Southport Dental Care.

Alex Arbelo, DMD

Dr. Arbelo is a practicing dentist in North Carolina, New York and Puerto Rico. He has 18 years of experience treating patients of all ages. He was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and went to C.R.O.E.M High School in Mayaguiel, Puerto Rico. Dr. Arbelo studied biology at the University of Puerto Rico Arecibo Campus. In 2004, he finished his DMD at the Medical Campus of Puerto Rico. In 2005, he completed his residency at the New York Medical College base in St. Vincent’s mid-town hospital and Metropolitan hospital. In 2006, Dr. Arbelo set up a solo practice in Ponce, Puerto Rico. In 2015, he moved to upstate New York and continued practicing family dentistry until 2021. In 2022, he moved to North Carolina with his wife, Marilyce.

Besides enjoying time with his family, Dr. Arbelo is poet, songwriter and rapper with recorded singles available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and other digital platforms.

Alyson Young

Administrative

Alyson was born in Orlando, Florida, but growing up, she spend her childhood in North Carolina. She has always been a lover for the beach life and moved to Holden beach in 2021. Alyson joined Southport Dental in January 2022 and has five years of dental experience. She loves the family-oriented atmosphere at this office and strives to make each patient’s experience a pleasent and happy one.

In her free time, she enjoys going off-shore fishing and beachin’ it with her feiends.

Amber Neal

Certified Dental Assistant

Amber joined this practice in July 2021. She graduated from Wilkes Community College in 2017 and received her associates degree from Mitchell Community College. Amber worked in pediatric dentistry for four years and now she is absolutely in love with general dentistry. Her favorite part of this practice is how it feels like family. She also loves how awesome all her patients are.

In her free time, Amber loves going to the beach, spending time with family, baking, cooking and shopping.

Jessica Proulx

Dental Hygienist

Jessica graduated from the first dental hygiene school in the world, the Fones School of Dental Hygiene! She is originally from Western Massachusetts and has lived in Brunswick County for four years. Jessica has been a part of our team since July 2020 and enjoys teaching patients about about oral hygiene. She is engaged to be married to her fiancé Brady, and they have two beautiful children, Boston and Hadley. When Jessica isn’t working, she enjoys spending time at the beach and with family!

Jordan Boggs

Dental Assistant

Jordan graduated from Lake Norman Dental Assisting School and she joined our practice in July 2021. Her favorite part about this practice is how, no matter what, everyone always takes care of each other and treats each other like a small family.

Jordan is married to her husband, Drew, and has two beautiful babies, Emmi and Wesson. Outside of the office, she enjoys boating, spending time with family and going to the beach.

Kristie Watts

Dental Assistant

I have lived in Southport all my life and love the charm and quaintness of our beautiful little town. I have been a dental assistant here for over 30 years. The best part of my job is getting to know my patients and working with our great team. I strive to provide the very best care possible for my patients and make them feel like they are part of our Southport Dental family. I have been married to my wonderful husband, David, for over 25 years. In my spare time, I love to spend it with family and friends. I also enjoy reading and doing a variety of outdoors activities.

Lea Ann Vanhoose

Office Assistant Manager

Lea Ann started working at Sunset Dental in October of 2019 and transferred to the Southport location in August of 2020. She has worked in the dental field for 25 years, and her favorite part of this dental office is the family atmosphere.

Lea Ann has two daughters, who are currently attending college at University of North Carolina Wilmington and East Carolina University. Outside the office, she loves spending time with family, traveling and going to the beach.

Madison Freeman

Dental Hygienist

Madison is a graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College and has been a member of this team since 2020. She loves the family-like environment of this practice and how everyone knows each other. She also likes how this office reminds her of her hometown. She believes it means a lot that people have been coming to this office for their dental appointments their entire lives.

Madison is a native of Buckhead, a small community in Columbus County. She is married to the love of her life, Ty. She is very family-oriented and enjoys spending time with them. She also enjoys going to church.

Mary Wright

Office Manager

I have been in dentistry for over 35 years. I started as a dental assistant and added the duties of scheduling, receptionist work, and working with billing and insurance. I am now the office manager, and over the years I have worn many hats. In addition to my main duties, you can find me doing most anything that is needed, from ordering supplies to keeping our computers online and up to date. I enjoy helping patients in all areas, and my goal is to have them leave feeling cared for and happy with their overall dental experience with our practice.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Mike, for over 25 years. We have two sons, Clay and Braeden, two wonderful daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Kayla, and one wonderful grandson, Bowen. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Michele Waterman

Dental Assistant

Michele Waterman has been in the dental field for 30 years. She first worked front desk answering phones and scheduling appointments. After two years of administrative duties, she decided to learn the clinical side of dentistry. Michele graduated from the Rowan Cabarrus Community College dental assistaning program in 1994. Shortly after, she received her certification in dental assisting after passing the Dental Assisting National Board Exam (DANB). Michele enjoys educating her patients about dental procedures and oral hygiene. She does her absolute best in helping her patients improve their dental knowledge and to make them have an enjoyable experience at our office!

Michele joined our practice in 2021 after moving to Southport from Wake Forest, North Carolina. Michele and her husband of 30 years love to walk on the beach and enjoy sunsets! Her daughter goes college in Raleigh studying dental hygiene. In Michele’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, biking, listening to music and watching comedy shows for a good laugh. Michele enjoys sharing laughter through out our practice!

Wendy Lawson

Dental Hygienist

I joined the Southport Dental team in September 2015 and graduated from dental hygiene school in 2003. I have also worked as a dental assistant for nine years. I enjoy being part of our team, providing quality dentistry in a family atmosphere. I have a commitment to quality, an empathy for our patients and an ability to form relationships that contribute greatly to the success of our team.

I have two dogs, Bentley and Nash, and a cat, Loretta Lynn. I enjoy decorating, gardening and love music. I also like performing at the Amuzu Theatre, spending time at the beach and socializing with my friends.
